Engelmann & Buckham Ltd has considered the various potential impacts arising from a disorderly Brexit. Among our major concerns are the impositions of duty on imports and border delays as new systems are implemented.
For the parts and products sourced from outside the EU we are not expecting any change to our supply times or tariffs imposed.
For EU sourced products, a switch to WTO tariffs could result in additional costs for the end customer. This would be determined by the commodity code of the parts concerned. An impact analysis reveals most tariffs under 2%.
Border delays for one or two days would not cause any degradation of the products being shipped but if a customer has a machine not operating then there is a risk of escalating costs for that customer.
It is therefore recommended that a review of key spares and components be completed for all machinery in regular use. This might be based on past experience or the manufacturer’s ‘critical spares list’. Our engineers can provide technical support for this review at our usual daily rates. We have time to source parts before the end of March to ensure productivity is maintained but we would recommend ordering critical spares as early as possible.
Our after-sales team are available to help with ordering and delivery of consumables and spares from 08.30 to 17.00 each weekday.
