November 4th 2009 - Lita success at Comma Oil

Comma Oils production of 25 and 20 litre plastic oil canisters has been transformed by the recent installation of a new LITA palletising system.

Until recently the palletising of these containers has been carried out manually but now, with a highly flexible machine supplied by LITA Srl through agents Engelmann & Buckham Ltd of Alton Hampshire, performance at the Gravesend site has been enhanced considerably.

“We chose LITA for this key investment on site due to the high quality and robust construction of their equipment, their ability to meet our exacting and demanding requirements, the good value of the machinery and the professionalism of their agents Engelmann & Buckham”, says Josh Higgins, Operations Manager for Comma Oil, Gravesend. “The efficiency with which they carried out the installation and the speed of commissioning was remarkable; the whole system was up and running within one day causing no disruption at all to our normal production in the area” Josh Higgins continued.

“This installation at Comma Oil is the latest in a number of such installations carried out in the UK and has made LITA the foremost choice for those requiring top quality palletising equipment covering a wide variety of specific requirements across all industries” says Michael Henderson, Director of Engelmann & Buckham.

The palletiser installed at Comma Oli’s Gravesend plant is the type “Robodue”, a Cartesian axis robot unit. This machine takes canisters from the nearby filling equipment via a single line infeed conveyor, and stacks them row by row onto the appropriate pallet. The layers are built up precisely with each layer inter-locking with the next for overall stability.

The machine can be changed over from UK (1000mm x 1200mm) pallets to Europallets (800mm x 1200mm) by a simple switch. The machine’s programme ensures that the correct pallet configuration is then handled on the new pallet.

Completing the installation, is an automatic empty pallet destacker and automatic stretch wrapper programmed to optimise the security of the finished pallet but at the same time using the minimum quantity of film.

LITA manufacture a full range of palletisers including layer-type, gantry-type robot and articulated arm-type robot, together with all necessary ancillary equipment including pallet de-stackers, layer pad insertion devices, pack turners, stretch wrappers, pack elevators & de-elevators, to enable the complete palletising operation to be delivered from one supplier.
